10-year celebration at U3A Centre
In 2015, President Andy Doogan secured the lease of our current premises at 1480 Anzac Avenue, the former Kallangur Library. The opening of the new U3A Pine Rivers Centre was officiated by the mayor of Moreton Bay Regional Council in October 2015. This establishment provided us with a “home”, featuring a full-time office and reception, and is a milestone worth commemorating.
Join us at 1:30pm on Wednesday 22 October 2025 at the U3A Pine Rivers Centre.
Queensland Seniors Month
Seniors Month is a month-long celebration, held from 1 to 31 October each year, that promotes positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing.
COTA (Council on the Ageing) Queensland initiated the first Queensland Seniors Week in October 1960, and it was originally known as Old People’s Week. Queensland Seniors Month includes United Nations International Day of Older Persons (1 October) and National Grandparents Day (26 October), days that recognise the important contribution of older people in their families and communities.
Throughout the month community groups and organisations are hosting inclusive events and activities throughout the state. Find events and activities near you at https://qldseniorsmonth.org.au/.
The Third Age is the best time of your life!
For more information, please call us on 3880 6677 or drop into the U3A Pine Rivers Centre, 1480 Anzac Ave, Kallangur.
Reception is open 8:30 am to 1:00 pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30 am - 12 noon Friday.
Everyone who "works' at U3A Pine Rivers is a volunteer. Without the people who give their time freely, this organisation would not exist.
There are some positions, or roles, that require some level of committment.
All of these roles would benefit from an assistant, or a backup person. Do you have an interest, or skills in these areas? Speak to a member of the committee about how you could help. Consider joining the committee, which meets once a month, or nominating for an executive position in the future.
There are many other ways you could offer your time to help U3A Pine Rivers. For many small tasks you could spend a few extra minutes before or after your class. There is no need to allocate another day unless you wish to.
Volunteering offers vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer. Volunteering and helping others can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose.
Have a chat to anyone on the committee, about how you could give some of your time to help others in U3A, and yourself.
